Literacy Coaching Specialist (LCS)
The Northern Indiana Educational Service Center (NIESC) is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of a Literacy Coaching
Specialist (LCS).
The Literacy Coaching Specialist provides direct, job-embedded coaching and professional learning to school-based instructional
literacy coaches participating in the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) Literacy Coaching K–8 initiative. The role helps
coaches translate the science of reading and structured literacy into high-quality classroom practice, strengthens coaching quality and
fidelity, and builds sustainable school-level capacity. The LCS will be assigned to a geographic area and supports literacy coaches
through regular on-site engagement, frequent communication, actionable feedback, and data-informed problem-solving. This is a
highly field-based role as the LCS builds trusted partnerships with instructional coaches and school leaders while maintaining required
documentation and communication and a clear focus on implementation of a statewide initiative.
Requirements / Minimum Qualifications
● Minimum 5 years of classroom experience
● Minimum 2 years of experience as an instructional coach, interventionist, administrator, or in a literacy-related leadership role
● Bachelor’s degree in education, literacy, or a related field
● Teaching license, administrator license, or equivalent preferred
● Literacy qualification/credential/endorsement/degree preferred
Contract/Salary
● This position is for a .75 FTE at $39,000.00 - $52,000.00 per calendar year (July - June) pending experience and credentials
● This position may be a full-time (1.0 FTE) at $52,000.00 - $70,000.00 per calendar year (July - June) pending experience and credentials
● This position is grant funded for a period of two years with no guarantee for an extension
